FAQs about FYNE Audio BassTrax technology
BassTrax technology is a system developed by FYNE Audio that uses a special Tractrix profile diffuser to evenly distribute the energy of a downward-firing bass reflex port throughout the room. This is achieved by converting the plane wave energy into a spherically expanding 360-degree wave front. The system is now used in all speaker models, from the FE series to the top models of the F1 series.
The BassTrax Tractrix diffuser uses a unique profile that maintains a constant 90-degree angle at each intersection of the expanding wave front. This eliminates reflections and distributes sound evenly throughout the room. This design is not new to horn speakers (Voight in the 1920s), but is new to diffuser use in this way.
The downward positioning of the bass reflex channel in combination with the BassTrax diffuser allows for better integration of the loudspeaker into the room. The diffuser ensures that the low-frequency sound spreads evenly, which makes the positioning of the loudspeaker in the room less critical. In addition, the twin cavity reflex system acts as a sound absorber and blocks standing waves that could arise in the main channel.
BassTrax technology is used in the bookshelf and floorstanding speaker models from the FE series up to the flagship F1 series. In particular, the floorstanding models use a twin-cavity reflex system.
The biggest advantage is the improved room integration. The 360-degree wave front and the avoidance of reflections result in a more even sound distribution in the room. The loudspeaker becomes less dependent on the position in the room, which leads to more flexible placement and better acoustic performance in different environments.
The Twin Cavity Reflex Loading System is a design in which the bass reflex port has two chambers. This system is used in FYNE Audio's floorstanding speakers. It expands the tuning frequency, reduces the excursion of the speaker cone and at the same time acts as a silencer to reduce standing waves inside.
Although the Tractrix profile is known from horn loudspeaker technology, its use as a diffuser in conjunction with a downward-facing bass reflex channel and 360-degree dispersion is novel. This combination enables better room integration and flexible positioning of the loudspeaker.
In addition to BassTrax technology, FYNE Audio also uses other technologies such as IsoFlare and FyneFlute driver technology to further optimize the performance and sound quality of their speakers. The various FYNE product series suggest that materials, design and other technologies are also used to optimize the speakers.
