FAQ about Fyne Audio and the technologies used

IsoFlareℱ technology is a point source system in which the tweeter is coaxially positioned in the center of the woofer/midrange driver. This design enables even sound radiation with constant directivity, resulting in precise stereo imaging. The sound appears to come from a single point in the room, enabling coherent and natural reproduction. The drivers are built on sturdy cast aluminum baskets to minimize unwanted vibrations and use high-quality materials for diaphragms and magnets to achieve optimal sound quality.

The BassTraxℱ system is a patented design used in FYNE Audio speakers to optimize bass response. It uses a downward-firing diffuser in the speaker base that distributes bass energy in a 360° pattern. This reduces the so-called "boundary effect" where bass is over-amplified in the corners of the room. This even dispersion results in more precise and controlled bass response, allowing the speakers to be placed more flexibly in different rooms.

FyneFluteℱ technology refers to the special surround or suspension of the speaker cones. Unlike conventional surrounds, which can lead to reflections of energy within the cone, FyneFluteℱ uses a variable geometry with computer-designed grooves. This uneven surface eliminates mismatch effects and reduces coloration in the sound image, resulting in increased musical accuracy.

FYNE Audio often cross-overs the drivers of their speakers at relatively low frequencies (sometimes as low as 750 Hz). This means that the midrange is mainly covered by the central IsoFlareℱ driver. The deeper separation allows the woofer to focus more on the bass and the midrange is reproduced more clearly and quickly. The result is better integration of the frequency ranges, improved phase consistency and greater precision.

The SuperTrax super tweeters from FYNE Audio are designed as an optional addition for an extended frequency spectrum. These super tweeters emit sound in a 360° pattern, which improves the spatiality and resolution of the sound image. They work from a frequency of 16 kHz upwards and use a special "Thin Ply Carbon Diaphragm" (TPCD). The super tweeters can be adjusted to the sensitivity of different loudspeakers. They improve the overtone spectrum and the attack/release envelopes.

FYNE Audio uses high-quality materials in its speakers to ensure optimal sound quality and durability:

  • Membranes: Mixed fiber paper membranes are often used, which are known for a natural midrange and fast transient response.
  • Tweeters: Tweeters with titanium or magnesium membranes are used, which offer high rigidity and precise reproduction.
  • Magnets: Neodymium and ferrite magnets ensure a strong and controlled driving force of the drivers.
  • Housing: The housings are often made of sturdy materials and internally reinforced. This minimizes unwanted resonances.

Dr. Paul Mills is FYNE Audio's Technical Director and has extensive experience with point source drivers. He has been instrumental in the development of technologies such as IsoFlareℱ, BassTraxℱ and FyneFluteℱ. His knowledge and experience are instrumental in ensuring that FYNE Audio develops loudspeakers with high levels of technical innovation and outstanding sound quality.

FYNE Audio loudspeakers are designed and, with the exception of the Eco series, also manufactured in Scotland. Manufacturing often takes place on the same production line as the HighEnd series to ensure the highest quality standards. This location underlines FYNE Audio's tradition and commitment to developing and producing audiophile loudspeakers with a high technical standard. The products are also manufactured with attention to detail, which is evident, for example, in the use of metal parts from a boutique factory in Glasgow.
